Description
An Early 20th Century Antique Japanese Carved Stool or Low Table. Liberty London – Displays Desirable Patina and Age.
The floral carvings look to be sunflowers, with a simpler corresponding pattern continuing down the cabriole legs.
ABOUT THE ITEM: This antique dark hued wood low stool with floral carvings is a unique piece of furniture from the early 20th century. The detailed carvings suggests an influence in the Japanese folk-craft, or Mingei, movement. Sold in Liberty London in the early 20th Century, this one is slightly more unusual as it’s lower and doesn’t have the second tier. Ideal plant stand.
ITEM CONDITION: The top of the stool is sold and there is no damage to the carvings, save for age related wear. The top has visible wear and patina, with the natural wood visible as a result.
The underside of the table top has had some chips out, resulting in the legs needing some attention and an effort has been made to give the legs a bit more sturdiness by adding wood & metal braces. As a result, the legs have a slight wobble and the repair is very basic. However, the overall aesthetics of the stool still remains and it’s a very charming piece.
Please see images for more details about the items condition.
DIMENSIONS: Height 25.5cm. 23cm Square.
