This Vintage Steamer Trunk is Complete with Inner Tray, Travel Stickers & Provenance.
With metal banding and handles in an unusual green colour and traceable history, this trunk is certainly a statement piece.
True steamer trunks are low profile – they were brought “On Voyage” into the ships cabin and were limited to size. Any trunk larger than roughly 91 x 66 x 35cm is NOT a steamer trunk – It would be a travel trunk that was stored in the ships hold during the trip – “Not Wanted on Voyage” or “Hold” labels were placed on these types of trunks.
Vintage Steamer Trunk - Perfect for Storage or Display.
ABOUT THE TRUNK: This trunk has a history that can be traced back to C.S Passmore from Auckland, New Zealand. His archive page in the War Memorial section at the Auckland Museum gives plenty of detail about his life & war record. Details can be found by visiting the Auckland Museum webpage.
CONDITION: The external condition of this trunk shows age related wear on the corners overall, with bumps and knocks, as well as the travel stickers & inscriptions. The 2 catches do work, but once closed are a bit tricky to open. The inner tray has undergone some repair and whilst not “good as new”, it’s a decent job that holds the corners together. The tray also has open tears on the paper cover on some edges.
Internally, the trunks is clean, dry and good for storage. A few tears in the paper lining, but mostly whole & complete.
Please see images & video for further details.
