Dark Blue Vintage Steamer Trunk – A Particularly Gorgeous Statement Piece with Locks and Leather Handles.

A good storage space inside and a large surface area on top gives this vintage steamer trunk a lot of versatility. A lovely piece to have in your home – straight from the golden age of travel. Additionally, the top of the trunk retains a travel label from its time in service.

True steamer trunks are low profile – they were brought “On Voyage” into the ships cabin and were limited to size. Any trunk larger than roughly 91 x 66 x 35cm is NOT a steamer trunk – It would be a travel trunk that was stored in the ships hold during the trip – “Not Wanted on Voyage” or “Hold” labels were placed on these types of trunks.

CONDITION: The external condition of this trunk is good, with age related wear on the corners and bottom. The handles on the end have seen some wear over the years – when these trunks were stood for loading, it was this section that ended up a bit worse for wear and 1 handle is in poorer condition than the other one.

The paper lining has a small amount of wear & tear. However it is clean & dry internally.

The wooden banding is complete and both catches work. Some age related scuffs and dings, but no major issues. A few of the metal corner pieces are dented and scuffed. Please see images for further information.
