1960’s Expanding suitcase by Revelation. Has Provenance – The ownership can be traced to the son of world war 1 flying ace charles midgley maud.
Charles M Maud lived most of his life in Yorkshire, having been born in Rodley and died in Ripon. This suitcase has an address label and a handwritten address in Ripon, which links the 2 family members.
Inside the lid of the case is the hand written ownership tag of
SQN LDR J M MAUD
Squadron Leader JM Maud is therefore assumed to be the son of Charles Maud. J M Maud is mentioned in the London Gazette on 1st Jan 1959 on promotion from Flight Lieutenant to Squadron Leader. There is another mention on 1st Jan 1965 upon his promotion from Squadron Leader to Wing Commander.
He was finally mentioned as retiring in 1967.
Overall in good condition – the case is complete but shows signs of wear and tear, especially on the corners and edges – They do take the brunt, don’t they? There is also a minor dent/rip in the lid – It looks like something has dropped on it. The external seams have stood up to the job and protected the case, although there are a few dents.
Internally, the cloth lining is in tact with age related marks and stains. The strapping is also showing signs of age related wear. The expanding mechanism still works well and the key locks the case perfectly.
Dimensions: 69 x 49 x 19cm. When expanded, the case increases in size from 19cm to 26cm.
This vintage item shows signs of age through scuffs & faded finishes. Please see item description and images for further details.
